"Chauffeur service" is a phrase that has been stretched until it means very little. Plenty of operators use it for what is functionally a taxi with a cleaner car. So it is worth setting out what the term should mean, and letting you judge whether you need it — because for a lot of journeys, you do not.
The four things that actually differ
1. The driver is assigned, not dispatched
This is the structural difference and everything else follows from it. A taxi or ride-hailing app allocates whoever is nearest at the moment you ask. A chauffeur is booked to you in advance, which means they can be briefed on your itinerary, arrive before the pickup time rather than at it, and stay with you across a day rather than a journey.
2. The price is settled before the journey
A meter reports; a fixed price commits. Because a chauffeur booking is arranged in advance, the fare can be agreed in advance — and it then absorbs traffic, tolls, luggage, night hours and waiting time after a delayed flight rather than passing them to you.
3. The vehicle class is guaranteed
You book an E-Class, S-Class or V-Class and that is what arrives. At a rank you get whatever is next in the queue, which is fine when you are alone with a rucksack and less fine when you are collecting a client.
4. The professional standard is defined
Licensed under German passenger-transport rules, background-checked, insured, business-level English, dressed appropriately, and trained in the parts that are invisible when done well — door service, luggage handling, and knowing when not to make conversation.

Hourly versus point-to-point
Two booking shapes cover almost everything. Point to point is a fixed route with a fixed price — airport to office, office to client site. Hourly, as-directed keeps the driver and vehicle with you for a block of time and goes wherever the day requires.
The rule of thumb: if you know your destinations but not your timings, book hourly. If you know your timings, book point to point. Roadshows, due-diligence days and trade fairs are almost always hourly; airport runs are almost always point to point. Dusseldorf-specific reasons it works well here
Dusseldorf sits in the middle of the densest urban region in Germany. Within an hour's drive you have Cologne, Essen, Duisburg, Dortmund, Wuppertal, Aachen and the Dutch border. That produces a very particular travel pattern: multiple business destinations that are close enough to chain into one day, but awkward to connect by rail with a bag and a laptop.
It is a pattern a car with a driver fits almost perfectly, and it is why chauffeur demand here skews towards day hire rather than single airport runs — the airport transfer is often just the first leg of the booking.
What to ask before you book
- Is the price fixed, and what exactly does it include? (Tolls, luggage, night hours, waiting time.)
- Is flight tracking included, and how much free waiting time comes with an airport pickup?
- What vehicle class am I actually getting, and what is its passenger capacity?
- Can I have the same driver for the whole day, and how is that priced?
- How does billing work for repeat business travel — per ride, or a monthly invoice with cost centres?
