"Taxi to Dusseldorf Airport, fixed price" is one of the most-searched phrases in this market, and it hides a genuine confusion. A street taxi and a pre-booked fixed-price transfer are not two prices for the same service — they are two different services, regulated differently, sold differently and useful in different situations.
What a metered taxi is
A licensed taxi in Dusseldorf operates under a municipal tariff. The meter is not the driver's choice; the rate is set by the city, and within the city's designated area the driver is obliged to use it. That is a consumer protection, and it works: you cannot be overcharged relative to the tariff.
What it does not give you is certainty. The tariff is per kilometre plus a time component, so an identical journey costs different amounts on a clear Sunday morning and a wet Friday rush hour. You find out the total at the end.
What a fixed price is
A pre-booked private transfer is a different legal category — a hire vehicle with driver, booked in advance for a specific journey. Because it is arranged beforehand, the price can be agreed beforehand. That is the whole mechanism: you are not getting a discount on a taxi, you are buying a different product where the number is settled before the wheels turn.
What the fixed price locks in
- Traffic. Congestion on the A44 or A46 is our problem, not yours. The price does not move.
- The hour. No night, weekend or public-holiday surcharge.
- Luggage. No per-bag charge, including bulky items.
- Tolls and vignettes, including on cross-border runs to the Netherlands or Belgium.
- Flight delays. Waiting time is measured from when you actually land, with 120 minutes included free.
- Group size. One price for the vehicle, up to eight passengers.
What it does not cover
Honesty matters more than marketing here. A fixed price is fixed for the journey you booked. If you add a stop, change the destination mid-route, or the passenger count exceeds the vehicle you booked, the price is recalculated — you will be told before anything changes, but it is not a licence to redraw the trip. Waiting beyond the free 120 minutes at the airport is chargeable, at a rate you are told upfront.

When the meter is genuinely the better buy
If you walk out of DUS arrivals with a rucksack at two in the afternoon and want to be in the Altstadt, join the taxi queue. It will be quick and the fare will be reasonable. Pre-booking a transfer for that trip is over-engineering, and we would rather you knew that than felt misled.
The fixed price earns its keep on planned journeys: an early departure, a late arrival, a group, luggage, a long route, or any trip where finding out the cost afterwards would be unwelcome.
How to get one
Enter your pickup and destination in the booking form and you get a live quote for your actual addresses — not an estimate. Add your flight number for airport pickups and we track it. The quote you accept is the amount charged; the panel re-verifies it at booking, so the number cannot drift between quote and confirmation.

Book a fixed-price transfer
Every route on this site carries its own fixed price for the whole vehicle — not per person. You see the price before you book, and it does not change afterwards: not for traffic, not for the hour of day, and not because your flight was delayed.
What the price includes
- Up to eight passengers in the same vehicle at the same price
- Luggage with no per-bag charge, including skis, golf bags and oversized items
- Tolls and vignettes, including on cross-border routes
- Night, weekend and public-holiday travel with no unsociable-hours surcharge
- 120 minutes of free waiting time at the airport, measured from your actual landing
- Meet & greet in the arrivals hall with a name sign
- Child seats at no charge — tell us ages when you book
How to book
Enter your pickup address, destination, date and passenger count and you get a live quote for that exact journey rather than an estimate. For airport pickups, add your flight number — that is what lets us track the flight and adjust the pickup automatically. Booking more than 24 hours ahead also avoids short-notice pricing.
